Judges praise ‘Mixed-Use Development of the Year’.
Braehead and Renfrew Riverside have won one of the most prestigious accolades in the UK property industry - the Mixed-Use Development of the Year in the 2008 Scottish Property Awards.....The first phase of Riverside Braehead comprises a new £7m development bringing 33,500 sq ft of high quality office space to Renfrewshire’s expanding economy.
Riverside Braehead fills a significant gap in the market across the West of Scotland for new, high quality offices in a low density environment with good car parking provision.....Porcelanosa, the world-famous Spanish tiling company, will shortly open its brand new state-of-the-art Scottish headquarters at Braehead.
Featuring a stylish new building in keeping with its reputation for cutting edge design and high quality materials, Porcelanosa is building its business and profile in Scotland’s buoyant market for interior design. The company is also creating up to 80 jobs at the new HQ, which is located at Platinum business park, a prominent site off the M8, opposite Audi Braehead. Managing Director Des Martin highlights the importance of a world class location to complement the global reputation of Porcelanosa, which now has 400 showrooms in 80 countries.
“We wanted an A grade location with close proximity to the M8. The retail, business and leisure facilities, plus the overall quality of Braehead, were major factors – nowhere else ticked all these boxes”.
Scotland’s growing business and tourist sectors will welcome the news that two brand new hotels – a Sleep Inn and a Travelodge – are coming to Braehead, providing nearly 200 beds, new restaurants, bars, meeting rooms and extensive car parking.
Furthermore, the new hotels will create another 60 jobs, adding to the 4300 people already employed on site at Braehead.
The new hotels are greatly needed in order to service the expanding business, residential, leisure and tourism sectors. Glasgow Airport alone is forecasting significant increases in traffic over the next few years, bringing rising visitor numbers to Renfrewshire and Scotland, many of whom will want to stay in comfortable, high quality local hotels.
The new hotels will become a key part of a thriving mixed-use community which puts businesses and the local economy at the heart of the overall development plan.
Renfrew Riverside – the second phase of Braehead – recently won a major Mixed Use Award from Scottish Property Executive Magazine for the ongoing regeneration and transformation of the River Clyde.
The Award was won for the innovative, collaborative approach taken by Capital Shopping Centres and its partners. The judges in particular praised the foresight and risk taken by the private sector in the economic renaissance of a major part of Renfrewshire.
Councillor Jim Harkins, Leader of Renfrewshire Council, described Braehead and Renfrew Riverside as “An economic powerhouse that is driving the regeneration of the Clyde and creating new opportunities for our local communities”.
